[Elena's Welcome]

Some words of welcome from our Artistic Director

Elena Durán

Dear Friends

This summer for the first time since 1990 we are not presenting the Stratford Flute Festival but we fully intend to return again next year, 2009, for the last two weeks of July. The immediate reason for not presenting the Festival is that I have been invited to present my show MEXICO DE MI CORAZON in Edinburgh for the month of August and it would not be possible for me to do both.

I have been working on the show for several years and in the last twelve months I have presented it more than thirty times in Mexico City and all over the Mexican Republic. It features the music of three iconic Mexican singers, Jorge Negrete, Pedro Infante and Javier Solis as well as clips from their wonderful movies. We will be presenting the show every day except Sundays in the Majestic Theatre, George Street, Edinburgh and I very much hope that some of you will be able to come and see it.

Next year, we expect to be back with a new vision for the Festival. I have a lot of new ideas and I am looking forward to sharing them with you.

Whilst the Stratford Festival is taking a break, Sarah Newbold and Zoë Smith are presenting the Llangenny Flute Summer School, running from 21 - 26 July.  I strongly recommend this course to you since I know you would find it both useful and enjoyable. The contact address is www.geocities.com/llangennyflutes.

I hope that you will stay in touch either through the SIFF website or else through my own www.elenaduran.com – I always look forward to hearing from you.

With very best wishes to each and every one of you

Love
